Maybe you've played the game "Two Truths and a Lie." Someone tells three plausible stories and then everyone tries to guess which story isn't true. Sounds easy enough when you can rely on the storyteller to reveal their own truths and falsehoods. The free and responsible search for truth and meaning is one of our core Unitarian Universalist values. In fact, many of our ancestors imagined that we were always moving toward a single immutable and mysterious truth. But what does it mean today to responsibly find our way through many truths and lies? Can we hold two truths at the same time?
