Earth
beautiful Earth
I do not praise you enough
I take for granted
your seasons
I consume
I take
I forget to give back
until I find myself
with my hands in the soil
and watch what emerges
and then I know
that
I am blessed.
I am fearful
I am losing you
You, creation,
everything.
Forgive me
for my apathy,
forgive my hopelessness —
you don’t need these from me.
Earth
beautiful Earth
let me stop
to hear the song
that you have always sung for me.
Let me sing to you
a promise
that I will not leave you
to the ravages of human greed
that I will return
what I have taken,
that I will make the sacrifices,
that I will raise my voice
until I scream
while we still have time
to do what must be done.
