Spring Equinox

Out of the quiet and beautiful darkness
the sun rises
casting light in equal portion
between night and day.
Spring Equinox,
the slow shifting
toward summer.
We receive the blessings of night and day —
blessings we can never change or control,
the simple fact of grace in our lives,
that coexists with the blessings
that we can control,
the steady flow
of water, of resources, of human kindness
that we can nurture
and protect
out of choice,
out of our willingness
to release the ego,
to release the insistence on mine, mine, mine,
the opening of our hands,
the loosening of our frozen grip
on all that is never really ours,
on all that belongs to the earth
and to the universe.
Here we can find the softening
into welcome,
into play,
into finding our place
as equals
with all beings,
with all life.
This is the miraculous point of balance,
where peace is found,
and love heals
all that awaits the coming warmth of summer.
