The sun shines like a long, lost friend
Returned from the netherworld of winter.
Spring flowers are blooming,
finally, surprisingly,
as if we had forgotten that they ever bloom.
The daffodils greet us faithfully along the path
Delicate, white and yellow,
and oh, so bold, growing up from hard earth and rocks.
The forsythia is suddenly ablaze this morning,
Sweet new green leaves
and a yellow profusion of joyous life.
For these small miracles, we give thanks.
