Source of All,
what if we cannot find the words
to hold together all that is on our hearts this day?
There is sorrow,
tears for our own loses and regrets,
tears for the ones who
are sleeping on the streets
and in the metro.
It's a long night's curfew
to stay hidden and unseen.
How have we failed to honour
the inherent worth and dignity of so many?
But there is also gratitude
for returning light,
for the potential of peace
and new beginnings.
The earth calls to us,
reminding us of the power of renewal.
Beneath the snow
life continues
to wait, to rest, to prepare
for the day
when new growth will awaken
out of the depths,
out of our despair,
out of our own failures.
There is still time
to heed the lessons
the earth has always offered,
to see how connected we are,
to each other and to all living things.
For every action, a reaction,
touching us
and all that exists,
reminding us that the gift
of survival is still ours,
when we realign our place
in the order of things.
