by Rev. Diane Rollert
with words from the "word cloud"
we created as a congregation
during the Sunday worship service
on January 23, 2022.
Spirit of Life,
Ground of our being,
this is our prayer today,
the many words
that have filled the screen
with our thoughts and our feelings
as we consider our own responsibility
in a journey towards the wholeness
of racial justice
We are feeling
daunted, doubt, discomfort,
sorrow, risk, overwhelmed,
challenged, sheepish, unsure,
anger, anger at ourselves,
but we are also feeling
challenged, determined,
ready to listen, to work,
feeling responsible, an obligation,
empowered, empathetic,
sympathetic, solidarité,
yearning for justice and awakening,
living with aggressive sincerity,
knowing this is necessary,
feeling love, amour,
and most of all HOPE.
May we ever be a people of integrity,
no matter how often we despair
in the state of the world
and in our own failings.
No matter how much frustration we feel
at the slow pace of change,
may we have faith
that although
the arc of the moral universe is long,
it continues to bend towards justice.
May our dream of beloved community
be ever realized through our thoughts
and through our actions.
